Supplies Needed for Program for Biotechnology Education – PROBE (Marin/Sonoma)

Project Type

Donate equipment/supplies

Brief Description of Project

Biotechnology-focused kits supplied by PROBE to schools include equipment such as micro pipets (20, 200 and 1000 microliter), small bench top micro-fuges, water baths, heat blocks, UV transilluminators, gel electrophoresis equipment, etc. These equipment kits, along with reagents provided by PROBE and BABEC (Bay Area Biotechnology Education Consortium) allow students the opportunity to do labs such as transformation, PCR and other biotechnologies at minimal cost (a small service fee assists volunteers in providing some of the consumables required for the labs). The equipment needs to be maintained and broken items replaced.
Gently used/outdated equipment works very well for classroom use. Companies upgrading or changing this type of equipment are encouraged to consider donating to PROBE.
